Culture mix

Hello once again!

So this week was full with Korean culture experiences and I sprinkled a little Austrianess in between.
In korean class we learnt about cooking, so vocabulary that you need to write recipes, a part of our homework was to make a traditional food from your country and write a recipe to it. Guess what I made, simple and vegan 'Palatschikn' (similar to Pancakes, maybe~), to be honest I have never made them like this in Austria but with only water, flour and a litte sugar they came out pretty well. ^^

The next day I was invited to go to the Busan Museum with Jennifer and her host mother. The first part was not really that interesting... Walking through the museum and looking at old things while reading about Busan's history. Then we played with traditional Korean games, which was fun, even though we did not know how to play. After that we got to 'learn' how to preform a tee ceremony. Even though I don't think I remember every single hand movement, the tea came out good~~ The last thing that we did was not really planned. When we left the tea ceremony room we saw an open door that was closed before, in there were beautiful hanboks (korean traditional clothing) hanging... So we asked if we could try them on and we were allowed to. Like this me and Jennifer got to wear royal Hanboks (princess style)

The next event was the day before the actual big event. Cooking at my Grandparents house and once again being told that I would make a good wife. After that was done, I went to a Noraebang (Karaokerooms) and I even sung a Korean Song on my own (If- Taeyeon) I did okay~ but I can not really sing, but who cares right..? It is just about having fun, and I am good at that~~ after about 3 hours my voice was completely dead (started breaking after 3 songs~) and we had to go home anyway~

So big event of the week! LUNAR NEW YEAR!! woop woop~ What's so special about it... uhm well the men bow to the ancestors and offer them food. While we were watching TV. Afterwards we bowed to our grandparents and wished them a happy new year. They gave us money and a few nice words. Then we bowed infront of our parents, uncles and aunts. We got more money and more words that I had to translate for my 'new' cousin (Madison lives with my first family and as you might still remember my first hostfather is my second hostfather's younger brother, so cousins ^^) Then like in every culture, when the whole family gets together there is a lot of food, and you eat a lot and stay together for a while. (oh and I was wearing my Hanbok (that pink huge thingy~~ that I actually really like ^^)
Afterwards we went home I changed into my Dirndl, austrian traditional clothing, and went to see my mother's family.. for the first time... I bowed again and got more money, got told I was pretty and that I speak Korean like a Korean ^^ even though I mostly just started laughing, because my uncles wanted me to go on a date with their sons or did something stupid~~ My mother's family is huge and lively. I like them a lot ^^ I think my mother was a bit worried about me going there. But honestly I don't see why. I loved it there ^^ Especially eating traditional Korean food with my foreign face and my austrian dress in the middle of a very Korean Family. As a goodbye gift from my grandmother I got a tight hug, that felt very nice and warm, and good luck for my future. I hope that will see them again ^^
